Bioclimatic pergola and blinds - The problem

Greenhouse effect and useless terrace

Glass canopies cook you in the summer, but wooden ones take away all the light. Your patio becomes too hot in the summer and unusable in the rain and wind.

Bioclimatic pergola and blinds - The solution

A perfect microclimate with a bioclimatic pergola

Motorized aluminum slats act as a natural air conditioner. Open them for a gentle breeze and sun, or close them airtight in a summer storm with one click.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need a building permit to install a bioclimatic pergola?

In most cases, for structures up to 20 m², no building permit is required, as a pergola counts as a simple structure. Regulations differ between municipalities, so we check the local conditions with you before installation.

2. How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost?

There is no single price, as every pergola is made to measure. The price is set by size and number of modules, the chosen brand, the level of automation, the louvre profile and extras. See our guide on how much a bioclimatic pergola costs.

3. How does a bioclimatic pergola work and is it watertight?

A bioclimatic pergola has rotating aluminium louvres that control sun, shade and ventilation. When closed, the louvres meet with seals and the roof is watertight, with water draining through hidden gutters and posts. Learn more in our guide on what a bioclimatic pergola is.

4. How resistant are the pergolas to snow and wind?

Our premium systems are engineered for the highest loads. The louvres of certain models withstand up to 300 kg of snow per square metre, and Skymatik states wind resistance up to 230 km/h. For larger spans a reinforced louvre profile is used.

5. Does the pergola protect itself in rain and wind?

Yes, on systems with automation. Skymatik has weather sensors that close the louvres automatically at the first drops of rain or in strong wind, even when you are not home. This is the difference between a smart bioclimatic pergola and a plain motorised one, where you have to react yourself.

6. Which brand to choose: Skymatik, Brustor or Sun Winner?

It depends on your terrace. Skymatik for automation, Brustor for robustness and demanding conditions, Sun Winner for large spans, as the S500 covers a terrace up to 7×7 metres without an intermediate post.

7. What is the difference between a louvered pergola and a pergotenda?

A bioclimatic (louvered) pergola has aluminium louvres that rotate, allowing ventilation and every intermediate position. A pergotenda has a movable fabric that folds away to open the sky completely, but has no intermediate positions.

8. Can I upgrade or close the pergola on the sides later?

Yes. The systems are modular, so you can add ZIP screen blinds, glass walls or LED lighting later too. It makes sense to mention this during planning.

9. How long does delivery take and how does installation work?

Because every pergola is made to measure for your terrace, the average delivery time is 6 to 8 weeks. Installation is carried out by our own team, usually in a single day, with no subcontractors.
